Environmental projects

Efes Kazakhstan actively sponsors environmental events as well.

In 2015, we launched 'Eco-Efes' Project to collect, transport and deliver glass waste for recycling. This project was implemented jointly with Akim's Office of Astana and 'PosadiDerevo.kz' National Public Association. As a part of the project, 54 experimental containers for separate waste collection were installed in apartment buildings of Astana. The waste was collected and removed using special equipment. An essential part of the project was an awareness-raising campaign arranged for guests and residents of Astana through TV advertisements, advertising materials placed in entrance halls, bus stops and in public transport to improve environmental culture of city residents. As a result of the project, the environmental situation in the city has improved, and the environment became less polluted with solid domestic wastes. 37 tons of waste glass were collected, and Astana residents enthusiastically accepted the ideas of separate collection of garbage and demonstrated high 'environmental consciousness'. One of the goals of the project was to introduce high world environmental standards in the capital city of Kazakhstan on the eve of international exhibition 'The Energy of The Future in Astana' in 2017.

In 2016, this project was introduced in Karaganda, where separate waste collection was implemented in some district of the city, and special containers were installed, transportation to a waste sorting plant was arranged, and the residents were informed about it appropriately.

In 2017, EcoEfes program was continued and a local producer of biodegradable packages made from biologically degradable raw materials of natural origin was supported. 100,000 packages were ordered, produced and handed over to EXPO-2017 administration for exhibition guests when they bought souvenirs.

Also, as a part of EXPO-2017, our company sponsored a film festival of youth non-professional cinema on 'The Energy of The Future'.

Jointly with 'Sunkar' Nursery for Birds of Prey and Institute of Zoology, we implemented project 'Make Your Contribution: Save Nature' to preserve Red-Book golden eagle population in Kazakhstan. According to the environmentalists, in 2013, when we started our project, the total number of these birds in the area of Big and Small Boguty (Almaty Region) was only about six to seven pairs. The funds for the project, over KZT 9 million, were collected from the sales of 'Karaganda' beer packed in special boxes during 2012-2013. Since 2014, we have supported this project as a part of corporate social responsibility. In total, 22 young golden eagles were grown and released into the wild. This project has a patriotic significance as well, since the golden eagle is one of the symbols of independent Kazakhstan, and is depicted on the national flag.

As a part of program 'Clean like in Almaty', since 2013, we have been sponsoring a contest for the best janitor in Almaty, which is an open Internet voting of city residents for janitors in their districts. The project is intended to intensify the activities of managing and servicing housing companies, and to involve people in landscaping, to encourage careful attitude to the surrounding areas, and to raise the level of culture of townspeople. The total prize fund of contest 'Best Janitor of Almaty' will be KZT 650,000: KZT 200,000 for the first place, KZT 150,000 for the second place, and KZT 100,000 for the third place to be shared by three janitors at the same time. The awarding ceremony and honoring the winners are usually held solemnly at the celebration of City Day and Family Day.

The project has an increasing support from Almaty residents. If 8,000 votes were given in 2013, then, in 2017, about 33 thousand people voted, and the number of visits to the website for voting has increased from 50 to 605,000.

In 2017, the project was awarded two diplomas of 'Best in CSR' contest in Best Practice in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in CIS countries initiated by Sustainable Business magazine: according to the results of 2016, the project took the first place in the nomination 'Best Case In Kazakhstan' and also the 3rd place in the nomination 'Environment, Environmental Protection and Resource Saving'. Also, in 2017 and 2018, the competition was recognized the best corporate social project on environmental protection by European Business Association of Kazakhstan (EuroBAK).

Also, Efes Kazakhstan gave to Almaty residents well-equipped sports playgrounds in 'Medeu' Park and along Navoi Street opposite First President's Park. There are summer-houses, benches, playgrounds, carousels, as well as garbage bins there. The purpose of this project is to encourage townspeople to have comfortable rest, promote active lifestyles, and take care of the environment.
